For many people in Brantford, the bus is how they get to work, school, appointments and the grocery store. Knowing Brantford Transit fares, and the cheapest way to pay, can save real money over a month.

At Friendship House in Brantford, many of the neighbours who come for a meal arrive by bus. This guide explains Brantford Transit fares in plain language, using information from the City of Brantford.

Quick answer

How much is the bus in Brantford?

A single ride on Brantford Transit costs $3.25 for adults, seniors and students. Children 12 and under and veterans ride free. A 31-day pass costs $80 for adults and $60 for seniors, students and people in the Affordability Program. Pay with exact cash, the BT Connect app or a BT Connect Card; each ride includes a free transfer.

Day passes

A one-day pass costs $10.25. On weekdays it covers one rider. On Saturdays and Sundays, one pass covers up to 2 adults, which can make a weekend outing cheaper.

Paying with the BT Connect app

BT Connect is Brantford Transit’s mobile app. You can buy and store single rides or monthly passes, pay by credit card with no extra fees, and plan your trip with built-in maps and schedules.

Reduced fares for seniors, children, students and CNIB riders also work in the app, but you set them up first by visiting the Transit Terminal sales kiosk with documents that show you qualify. When you use a ride, the app prompts you to request your free transfer.

Paying with a BT Connect Card

If you prefer not to use a phone, a BT Connect Card is a reloadable card the size of a debit card. Tap it on the reader when you board, and each ride includes a free transfer.

  • Create an online account first. You need an email address, and the City suggests setting up a free one if you do not have it.
  • Pick up your card at the Transit Terminal, 64 Darling Street, linked to your account.
  • Reload it at the Terminal or online.

Ride bundles

A refillable BT Connect Card can be loaded with bundles of rides. The card has a one-time $7 fee. A lost or damaged card costs $7 to replace.

BundlePricePer ride
10 rides$26.00$2.60
20 rides$52.00$2.60
30 rides$78.00$2.60

A disposable card loaded with 2 adult rides is also available, at $3.25 a ride.

Ways to save on the bus

  • Children 12 and under ride free, so bring them along at no cost.
  • Ride bundles cost less per ride than cash.
  • If you ride most days, compare the cost of a 31-day pass with paying per ride.
  • Veterans can get a free yearly pass at the Transit Terminal.
  • Use your free transfer instead of paying twice on one trip.

Every dollar saved on transport helps the rest of the budget. Our guide on how to budget on a low income (opens in a new tab) has more ideas.

Plan your trip and check for changes

Routes and schedules change from time to time. The City’s Moving Forward Phase 2 service changes took effect on September 6, 2026, and updated route maps are posted on the City’s transit route changes page. Check them before you head out, especially if you have not ridden in a while.

The City also points riders to the Transit app, which gives real-time arrival times and alerts about service disruptions and delays on your favourite routes. The BT Connect app has trip planning, maps and schedules built in too.

Riding the bus in winter

  • Check your route and the time of the next bus before you leave home, so you wait outside for less time.
  • Dress in warm layers, with a hat and mittens, in case the bus is late.
  • Keep your BT Connect Card or exact change in an easy pocket so you are not fumbling with gloves off.
  • Give yourself extra time on snowy days.

If you need a warm coat or boots for the wait, our Clothing Closet (opens in a new tab) offers free clothing, Tuesday to Thursday, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Our guide on how to prevent frostbite (opens in a new tab) explains how to stay safe in the cold.

Brantford Lift

Brantford Lift is the City’s service for registered riders who cannot use regular transit. It has its own booking, hours and fares, listed on the City’s Brantford Lift pages.
